Intel’s most successful processor family is, Core 2 Duo.  After much hype, the CPU finally hit the market back in 2006.  Intel’s fight back with AMD processor has finally ended with the launch of Core 2 Duo processors.  Both performances and reliability wise, Core 2 processors clearly outshine AMD’s processors.  Price of the Intel Core 2 Duo processors started of from $180 to $600, but the current market price of the CPU is considerably low while compared to those days.

To make use of full efficiency and power of the processor you needed a motherboard featuring Intel’s newest P965 Express chipset and it is priced around $150 to $250.  As per different bench mark tests, it is clearly shown that even the slowest Core 2 Duo processor is significantly higher in performance than the Pentium Dual core processors.  Price wise Intel’s Core 2 processor is way cheap while compared to the dual core processors.

At the time of release, Intel only launched four Core 2 Duo processors, the E6300 (1.86GHz) & E6400 (2.13 GHz) each with 2MB of cache and E6600 (2.40GHz) and E6700 (2.66GHz) with 4 MB cache.  However, now you can see different range of Core 2 Duo processors with different clock speed and L2 Cache.  Intel’s mantra of creating powerful processors for fewer price has definitely made it one of the top processor brands in the world.
