The basics of color in the web
Choosing the appropriate color combinations for the visual presentation of any website is very important. Since a website visit is primarily experienced through visual interaction with it, bad choices in colors will greatly dampen viewer interest. A garish color scheme not only makes a website unappealing, but in extreme cases it can actually cause eye strain in the viewer.
There are five naturally occurring color schemes that can be used as a sort of base from which the proper visual presentation of a website can be founded on. It is best to select the most compatible with the overall theme at hand. For example, if the website is primarily involved in the subject of gardening, then its color scheme should be predominantly green with the addition of a few other colors that will complement green best.
Another creative way to present the website is through the use of just one color rather than several in a combination. To add depth, different shades of the chosen color can be combined instead. It is also better if the same color scheme is used throughout all the pages of the website. This makes it more attractive as a whole and implies a well-crafted design.
For the undecided, perhaps the best way to get inspiration is to check what other websites are using in their color schemes. Or better yet, they should look for websites that offer ready-made templates for copying. Some of the better ones even provide an option to the viewer to try out several color schemes for the same design template prior to actually choosing it. These galleries can be found by simply doing a browser search.
