Acer is expected to enter the server market soon, targeting both small and mid-size businesses. Although Acer had sold servers in the past, they have never played a major role in the market like Dell and Hewlett-Packard. Now, Acer will be among the first major computer vendors to sell systems based on the latest Opteron server chips, the 6100 series. Ben Williams, corporate vice president and general manager of AMD Asia-Pacific said that Acer will soon start selling servers based on the 6100 series Opteron server chips. The Opteron 6100 series will have eight or twelve cores with 10 chips, it will have clock speed ranging from 1.7GHz to 2.4 GHz and price will range from $266 to $1,386.
